What Is CBN?

If you’ve been looking into cannabinoids, you might have heard of CBN. Cannabinol is a phytocannabinoid naturally found in Cannabis sativa. It occurs mostly as a nonenzymatic oxidation byproduct of THC. THC has two more hydrogens than CBN that are subject to degradation (oxidation) from light, air or heat, which can cause the loss of the hydrogens, forming two double bonds in the upper cyclohexane ring. Interestingly enough, CBN was the first cannabinoid to be identified and isolated from cannabis in 1896. In this article, we will answer all your questions about CBN, its benefits, and where to purchase it safely and effectively.

What Does CBN Do?

CBN is often thought to produce sleepiness and contribute to the “couch lock” effect noted by many users, especially in the early days when cannabis was not fresh and had higher amounts of CBN. When included in cannabinoid mixes, it adds to the entourage effect, making the mix feel more rounded and stronger. The most common reason why consumers use CBN is its ability to help with sleeping problems.

CBN has a diverse list of purported positive effects that have been studied for over a hundred years. Studies have demonstrated potential anti-convulsant effects of CBN, as well as its potential to increase feeding behaviors. Some studies found that CBN had similar but mild behavioral effects as Delta 9 THC when bioavailability was increased by intravenous administration. To add to these lists and by no means exhaustive are neuroprotection, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anti-MRSA, and topically for some skin conditions.

Is CBN Psychoactive?

CBN is generally designated as non-psychoactive, but in many ways, this is not entirely true. It does bind to CB1, although more weakly than THC. However, the true value of CBN lies in its potential medicinal qualities.

Is CBN a Super Melatonin?

Melatonin is the most prominent “natural” sleep-enhancing supplement available at every pharmacy nationwide. While melatonin is produced endogenously in our pineal gland, the actual absorption of melatonin when taken orally is probably around 3%. The actual ability of oral consumption of melatonin is minimal at best. CBN offers better bioavailable rates than melatonin and works significantly better when it comes to helping with sleep issues.

In addition to its superiority with sleep, CBN has numerous other benefits found in studies above. CBN offers better bioavailability rates than melatonin and works significantly better when it comes to helping with sleep issues.

Where Can I Purchase CBN Safely and Effectively?

When considering possible vendors for purchasing CBN, it is essential to check details such as claimed concentration versus testing results and try to avoid vendors known for questionable products and providing misleading information in product descriptions.

One example of a reliable vendor is Vivimu, who has been producing THC-O for longer than most. Vivimu has become the literal cannabinoid supermarket by offering the widest variety of high-quality cannabinoids at market-leading prices. Vivimu has several products that contain CBN, such as CBN isolate, HHC/CBN distillate blend, and CBN-O isolate.

HHCo Acetate Distillate
I'm going to give this 5 stars because it is high quality, and it is exactly what it says. However, I've been doing some reading that the o-acetate products can emit dangerous toxins when heated (such as vaping, dabbing). It might be better to eat this stuff in an edible or tincture instead of inhaling it. I can tell the irritation when vaping it is much worse and different than normal cannabinoid-induced coughing. It feels like damage even from just a few puffs, not just an expectorant like normal 'noid vaping. So I won't vape it anymore. Effects are amazing, though. It's a strong one!

Okay, how do I describe this... Interesting lemon/citrus scent and flavor. I can tell why people add this to mixes: it adds some dimensionality and strength. It is also slightly dry/irritating/harsh when vaped pure. A little bit goes a long way in terms of effects when paired with other 'noids.

OMG? This might be the best smelling thing I've ever smelled lol. I'm amazed. It's like a deep, sweet cherry scent. Tastes about the same when vaped. It's not harsh to vape by itself either. Effects-wise, it feels like it's trying to balance me out. Relaxing, but not tiring. This altnoid is definitely mysterious. I'm going to have to figure out more about it in terms of what I like mixing with it. For now, I kind of just like hitting it in pure form after some other 'noids.
