What is Delta 8?

Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8-THC, Delta 8) is a psychoactive cannabinoid found in the Cannabis plant. It is found naturally in the plant but typically it is found in lower concentrations. It is similar in effects to its more famous isomer Delta 9 THC. In fact the chemical formula is identical to Delta-9 THC but differs only in the placement of a double bond starting at either Carbon number 8 or 9. Both Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC bind to the cannabinoid receptor termed cb1, which gives the positive effects THC is acclaimed for. Delta 8 is typically thought of as being the lighter version of Delta 9. The lighter effects are more beneficial in certain situations, for example those who find the effects of Delta 9 too strongly or maybe wanting the relief of pain. It is excellent for daytime use and can allow you to still operate functionally getting tasks accomplished or even socialize without a heavy load. 

How is the wax/concentrate consumed?

Delta 8 waxes can be consumed the same way any wax or concentrate can be used. The wax or concentrate is heated to its boiling point and a vapor is made in which you inhale. Is Delta 8 the same as Delta 9? 

Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC are both very similar. There is very little difference in the chemical structure of the two and it is good to know that Delta 8 also retains many of the much loved effects of Delta 9. Delta 8 THC does not have the overwhelming feeling D9 THC can have. Delta 8 THC can provide some of the same benefits and is still federally legal in most states.  

How many different mediums can Delta 8 come in?

Delta 8 THC can be found in a wide variety of mediums. Delta 8 THC is first made into an isolated distillate form where it is almost pure Delta 8 THC in composition. This distillate is extremely viscous or thick and typically amber to clear in color. This Delta 8 THC isolate can then be added to virtually any type of medium for consumption. The distillate can be used to create vape mixes to simulate natural plant strains; distillate can be added to any type of edible and be eaten. A recent trend is emulsifying or nano encapsulation Delta 8 distillate to allow for more bio-availability when consuming it is an edible.

History of Delta 8 THC

Delta 8 THC was first synthesized in the 1940’s, and it was not until the 70’s that research was begun with the first ones being conducted on mice.  Sporadic testing occurred throughout the decades, staying mostly out of mainstream attention. With Hemp Act of 2018, hemp production in the United States soared resulting in a large supply of CBD from the plants. So with an easy synthesis that converts CBD to Delta 8, thankfully this conversion has offered a cannabinoid with great medicinal potential.
